Up here in Mcleod Ganj, things feel a bit different than they do down in the main part of Dharamshala. Menu De Royal is our little spot tucked away in the hills. The air is thinner and the weather can change in a few minutes, going from sunny to foggy before you can even close the windows. We don't have a big fancy sign or anything, but people find us eventually. The building is old and has its quirks, like floors that creak a bit when you walk across them. We spend a lot of time in the kitchen or chatting with the people who stop in for a break from the hiking trails. It’s not a corporate chain, so we do things our own way, even if it’s a bit slow sometimes. The view outside is probably the best thing about the location, though we mostly just see the tops of the trees and the mist. We have a few tables and some mismatched plates, but everything works well enough. We don't have a mission or a fancy philosophy, we just like living in Mcleod Ganj and making sure people have something to eat. Sometimes the power goes out when there’s a storm, and we just light some candles and wait for it to come back on. It’s a simple way of running things and we like the quiet life up here.
