You’ll find Yashoda Devi Stone Art at Bungalow Number 16 in Roop Nagar, right near the pump house and just before you get to Pal Balaji. Working with stone is a heavy, messy job, and our place shows it. There’s stone dust on almost everything, including us. We don't have a polished retail shop. It’s more of a yard where we carve and shape things. We’ve been at this for a long time, and it’s hard on the hands. We don’t use a lot of big words to describe the art. It’s just stone that we’ve changed into something else. Some days the weather is too hot to be outside working, but we push through it anyway. We don't have a fancy website or a marketing team telling us what to say. If someone wants a piece of stone art, they usually just walk in and talk to us. We’re just regular people who happened to learn this trade from our fathers or uncles. It’s a slow process and you can’t really rush it without breaking something. We take pride in the fact that we still do things the old-fashioned way. It’s not perfect, and every piece has its own little flaws, but that’s what makes it real stone. We’re just here doing the work every day. It's a lot of chipping away at rocks until they look like what we want them to look like. It's simple work.
