Jodhpur is quite a hot place most of the year, and our little spot, Mani Dhabha Restaurant, is right at the Jaljog Chouraha. We have been here for a good while now, serving people who are just passing through or living nearby. It is not a fancy place with air conditioning in every corner, but we have plenty of fans and enough chairs for everyone. People usually come here when they want dhabha food that actually tastes like it was made in a proper kitchen. We don't have a massive menu with a hundred items. We just stick to the things we know how to cook well, like our dal and some local sabzis. My brother and I run most of it, and we have a couple of boys who help with the cleaning and serving. Sometimes it gets really busy during the lunch hour because of the traffic at the crossing, and things can get a bit loud. We don't mind it, though. It’s just how life is at the chouraha. If you are looking for a place to sit quietly with fancy napkins, this is probably not it. But if you want a full stomach and a glass of cold water without spending too much, we are here. We open early and stay until the food is gone. It's a simple way to live, and we like it. We hope you stop by next time you're in Jodhpur and need a real meal.
