Shree Jai Bajrang Murti Art

Our workshop is located in Kunda, right on the Delhi Road in Jaipur. We are very close to the Jaipur Golden Petrol Pump, which is a big landmark around here. We work on making murtis, which are statues. Most of what we do is carved from stone or cast in other materials. It is a very dusty job. Everything in the shop is covered in a thin layer of white stone dust. We have artisans who have been doing this since they were young. They use hammers, chisels, and some power tools now too. It takes a long time to finish one statue, especially the big ones. We have pieces in various stages of completion sitting all around the yard. Some are just rough blocks of stone, and others are nearly finished. People come from all over to see what we have. It’s not a polished showroom. It's a working art studio. You can hear the tapping of tools all day long. We don’t really do any fancy advertising. Most people just see the statues as they drive by on the Delhi Road and stop in. We have a small room where we sit and talk to customers about what they want. It’s a traditional kind of business. We just keep doing what we’ve been doing for years. Sometimes the stone is hard to get, but we manage to find what we need to keep going. It is a slow and steady process. We like it that way.
