We’ve been here at 1221 in Achar Walo Ki Gali for quite some time now. You know how Gopal Ji Ka Rasta gets during the afternoons in Johari Bazar, it's always busy with people and scooters. Our name Kishore Motiwala Jewellers Private is on the board outside, but most locals just know the spot. We spend a lot of our time looking at pearls and different stones under the light. Sometimes the light in the lane isn't the best, so we move closer to the front. The shop isn't fancy or anything like those big showrooms you see in the malls. It’s just a place where we do our work and talk to people who come in looking for something specific. My father used to say the location matters because everyone passes through Johari Bazar eventually. Dealing with jewellery in a place like this means you see all sorts of folks. We keep things pretty simple here. Usually, there’s tea being passed around from the stall nearby. We sit on the cushions, sort through the stock, and handle the paperwork when we have to. It gets dusty because of the construction often happening around the old city, but we just wipe the counters and keep going. If you’re walking down the rasta, you’ll find us easily enough. We don't really do big ads or anything, just stay here and handle the daily trade as it comes. It's a bit cramped when more than three people walk in at once, but we make it work somehow.
