Our place, the Indian Institute Of Gems Jewellery, is situated out in the Sitapura Ind Area at Sp-111A. It is an industrial zone, so it is not exactly a pretty neighborhood, but it is where all the actual work happens. We spend our days looking at stones and working with metals. It requires a lot of concentration and steady hands to get things right. The air is often filled with the sound of grinding or polishing. We are not a big, shiny showroom; we are more of a workshop where people learn the actual craft of making jewelry. Most of us have been working with jewelry for years, and we just wanted a place to pass that on to others. Sometimes the electricity acts up in this part of town, but we manage to get things done. We have benches set up with all the little tools you need for fine work. It is usually quiet inside because everyone is focused on their piece. We do not have a marketing team or anything like that. People usually find out about us through word of mouth or because they work in the nearby factories. It is a specialized field, and we take it one day at a time. The walk from the main road can be a bit dusty, but once you are inside, it is all about the details of the gems.
