Ashutosh Moorti Art is based over at Plot No. 1896 on Khejron Ka Rasta. You can find us right at the first crossing, which is a spot where a lot of locals pass by every day. Hammers and chisels are going most of the morning, so it isn't exactly a quiet place to sit. We work on all sorts of stone pieces, and the progress is visible to anyone walking by the door. The street, Khejron Ka Rasta, has a lot of character and neighbors who have known each other for a long time. Our setup is simple because we don't need much beyond our tools and the stone. By the time lunch rolls around, my clothes are usually covered in that fine white dust. Taking breaks by the door helps us catch a little breeze when it gets hot. We don't bother with marketing or big plans. People just know we are here at the crossing. The work is hard on the hands and the back, but it's what we have always done. It feels good to be a fixture in the community. Every day follows a similar pattern of carving and chatting with the people who happen to stop by. We just stay focused on the task at hand until the light starts to fade. It’s just a part of life on this street for us, and we keep it as honest as we can.
