Machaan

Machaan is up on the 3rd floor of the Avani Riverside Mall on Jagat Banerjee Ghat Road in Howrah. Being in a mall means we have a very different schedule than a street-side shop. We have to wait for the mall gates to open before we can start our day. The space is quite large and we have tried to make it feel a bit different from the other shops in the building. From the third floor, you are away from the main noise of the ground floor entrance, but it still gets very busy on Saturday and Sunday. We get a lot of shoppers who are tired and just want to sit down for an hour. Howrah is a crowded city and the mall is one of the places where people come to walk around in the air conditioning. We have a team of waiters and kitchen staff who have to keep things moving fast because mall customers are usually in a hurry. We spend a lot of time cleaning the floors and the tables because so many people come through every day. The Jagat Banerjee Ghat Road area is always packed with traffic, so we are glad to be inside the mall where it is a bit more controlled. We don't have a big story to tell, we just run the restaurant and try to keep up with the mall's rules and the flow of people.
