Our little bhojnalaya is tucked away on Rishi Bankim Chandra Road in Howrah. We are right opposite the DRM building, which means we see a lot of office workers and people coming from the station. It’s a basic place with tables and chairs where you can get a meal that fills you up. We don't do fancy menus or anything like that. The kitchen starts early in the morning because the post office workers nearby need their tea and breakfast before they start their rounds. It gets very hot in the afternoons, especially near the stoves, but we keep the fans running. We’ve been in this spot for years, and the walls probably need a fresh coat of paint, but we’re usually too busy serving plates to worry about that. My brother and I run the front, and we have a couple of cooks who have been with us since we opened. We don’t have a website or a social media page. Most people find us just by walking past and smelling what’s cooking. It’s simple food, the kind you’d eat at home. We try to keep the prices fair because we know everyone is working hard for their money. Sometimes it gets crowded and you might have to share a table with a stranger, but that’s just the way it works here in Howrah.
