Azad Hind Iron & Engineering Works

The workshop is located at 49 Benaras Road. It is a place filled with the smell of grease and the sound of hammers hitting metal. We have been doing this engineering work for a long time, and the shop shows its age in the stained floors and the worn-out workbenches. It is a loud environment because there is always a lathe turning or someone using a grinder to smooth down an iron joint. Benaras Road is a congested area, so there is always a lot of activity right outside our doors. We take on all sorts of repairs and custom iron pieces that people bring to us. The roof is high and made of corrugated sheets, which makes it very loud when it rains during the monsoon season. Our team consists of a few local men who have been working with iron since they were young. We don't really do any advertising; people just know we are here because of the noise and the sparks flying near the entrance. There is a small wooden stool near the back where we take our tea breaks and talk about the jobs for the day. It is hard, physical work that leaves your hands dirty, but it feels good to see a finished piece of machinery head out on a rickshaw. We just keep doing what we know best and keep the machines running every day.
