Kalady Rice Millers Consortium (P) Ltd.

We’ve been here in Mattoor P.O. Kalady for quite a while now. It started with a few of us coming together because individual milling was getting tough and it made sense to share the work. Kalady is a place known for rice, so we just stick to what we know and don't try to get too clever with it. The consortium isn't anything fancy, just a group of millers trying to keep the machines running and the paddy coming in from the nearby fields. Most days, the whole place is just loud with the sound of the hullers and that specific smell of boiled rice in the air. We spend a lot of time checking the moisture in the grains and making sure the bags are stacked right so they don't tip over. It’s a lot of manual work, especially when the weather doesn't cooperate and the trucks get stuck in the mud out back. We don't have a big front office or anything like that, just a desk near the loading area where we keep the ledgers and a few chairs for guests. People from around here know where we are if they need to talk about a load or a price. Sometimes we sit out front and just watch the traffic go by while we wait for the next shipment to arrive. It’s just how things go here in Mattoor. We try to keep things moving so everyone gets their work done and goes home on time. There’s always dust on everything, but that’s just part of the job when you’re dealing with rice all day long.
