The High Wave

The High Wave is located right on NH 66 in Kottara Chowki, which is a pretty busy stretch of road in Mangalore. We are directly opposite the Cauvery Ford showroom, so we see a lot of cars and trucks passing by all day long. Being on the highway means we get all sorts of people stopping in. Some are just passing through to another city, and others are locals who live nearby in Kottara Chowki. The building isn't anything special to look at from the outside, but we keep the inside tidy. There’s always the sound of traffic in the background, which you get used to after a while. We spend our time in the kitchen or behind the counter, making sure things are moving along. We don't have a big mission statement or a fancy philosophy. We just serve food and provide a place for people to rest their legs. The fans hum on the ceiling to keep the humidity away, and the menu is just printed on plain paper. Sometimes we run out of things if the delivery truck is late, but we just tell people honestly and they usually understand. It’s a working-class kind of place where you don't have to dress up to come in. We’re just here on the edge of the road, doing what we do every day. Mangalore is a hot place, so we try to keep the water cold and the service fast.
