Ratna Bhattacharya

My office is over at 95 Sansad Marg, specifically in the Lawyers Chamber building. If you have ever been down this way, you know how heavy the traffic can be, especially when the courts are in session. Ratna Bhattacharya is the name on the door, and I have been sitting in this chamber for more years than I care to count. The room is packed with books, mostly old law volumes that have that specific dusty smell. It is not a huge space, so every inch is used for something. I have a wooden desk that has been with me since I started. There are always stacks of papers that need looking at, and the phone rings more than it probably should. The windows look out towards the street, so you hear the buses and cars all day long. My clerk usually sits near the door to help people when they come in looking for advice or to drop off documents. We don't have any of that modern minimalist furniture you see in new offices. Everything here is functional and a bit worn out. The tea man comes around twice a day, which is the highlight of the afternoon. It is a serious place because the work is serious, but we keep things relaxed when it is just us. Sometimes the elevator in the building is slow, so I just take the stairs. It is just a normal legal workspace on Sansad Marg.
