The chamber here at 59 Tilak Marg is where everything happens for us. Being inside the Supreme Court of India Lawyers Chamber means it is always a bit of a rush. You can hear the lawyers and clerks running back and forth in the hallways all morning. Our space is filled with stacks of legal documents and old files that seem to grow every week. It’s not the quietest place, but it’s right where we need to be. We spend a lot of time reading through cases or waiting for the next hearing to start. The desks are a bit small for all the books we have, but we’ve made it work over the years. We get a lot of people coming in with their problems, and we just sit down and try to figure out what the next step should be. The lighting isn’t the best, and the tea we get from the canteen is usually too sweet, but that’s the daily routine. We aren't a big firm with hundreds of people. It’s just us in this room, dealing with the paperwork and the court schedules. Sometimes we stay late into the evening when a big case is coming up and the building gets a bit quieter. The walls are thin so you can hear the neighbors talking about their own cases too. It’s a very specific kind of life here in the chambers, and we’ve gotten used to the fast pace and the endless rows of folders.
