About Shaheed Bhagat Singh Memorial School – Education in Bathinda
Shaheed Bhagat Singh Memorial School is out in Malkana, which is a small place in the Bhatinda district. Being in a rural area, we are surrounded by fields and the pace of life is a bit slower than the big cities. The school is named after the martyr, which is something we take seriously, but we don't go around boasting about it. It’s a simple brick building with a few trees planted around the perimeter to give some shade. The children here are mostly from farming families in the 151301 area. They are hardworking kids who often help out at home before and after school. Our classrooms are basic, with wooden furniture and windows that stay open most of the year to let the breeze in. We have a small library, though it’s mostly just textbooks and some old stories. The teachers are part of the local community, so they understand the challenges the students face. We don't have a big playground, but there’s enough space for a game of kabaddi or cricket during the break. In the winter, it gets quite cold, so everyone comes wrapped in heavy sweaters and shawls. It’s a modest setup, but it serves the village well. We just try to provide a decent education without any of the fancy stuff you might find in a private school in a city. It’s a quiet life here in Malkana and we like it that way.
