Jaymeherbabaagro Farmer Producer Company Limited

Our group is based at Tara Devi’s house in Hamirpur, in the Rath area. It’s a local effort that we started because we were all facing the same problems with our crops and the lack of buyers. We used the name Jaymeherbabaagro to represent our group of farmers from around Aligarh and Hamirpur. It's not a fancy operation at all. Most of the time, we’re just sitting in the courtyard talking about what we need to plant next or how to fix a broken tractor. We don't have marketing people or a big budget. We just have our hands and the land we work. We help each other out with getting supplies so we can save a bit of money. Dealing with the government rules for producer companies is probably the hardest part for us. We’d much rather be out in the fields than filling out forms at the kitchen table. But we know it has to be done if we want to grow. We focus on the crops that grow best in this soil and try to find honest people to sell to. Some seasons are better than others, and we’ve had our fair share of bad luck with the weather. But having the company means we don't have to face it alone. We are just neighbors trying to make a living from the earth and keep the old ways going while learning some new ones.
