Our village of Naubarar is a quiet place in the Tripurarpur Khalsa area of Azamgarh. We decided to start Ambedakar Purwanchal Farmer Producer Company Limited because we were tired of being the last ones to know anything about prices. Being out here in this part of Uttar Pradesh, you have to look out for your neighbors. Most of us have been farming these same plots for generations. We use a small space in the village to keep our tools and seeds. It is a bit cramped when everyone shows up at once, but we make it work. We spend a lot of time talking about the weather and how the soil is doing this year. There is no boss here, just a group of us trying to get a better deal for our produce. We handle things like getting fertilizers in bulk so it costs everyone a little less. Sometimes the paperwork gets confusing, but we help each other out with the forms. It is not like the big offices you see in the city. We have mud on our boots and we are usually thinking about the next harvest. Azamgarh has its challenges, especially when the rains are heavy, but we stay busy. We just want to make sure the younger folks see that farming can still provide a decent life if we organize ourselves. It is just basic work, done by people who live right here.
