Suma Coir Works

You can find Suma Coir Works right on A.S. Road in Thumpolly. It’s a place where there is always a bit of fiber in the air and the sound of machines or hands working. Coir is a tough material, and working with it every day makes for a long afternoon. We’ve been at this spot for years, and the building shows it. The roof has a few patches, and the floor is stained from years of heavy use. We don’t have a front desk with a receptionist. Usually, if you walk in, you’ll just see someone busy with the husks or the ropes. Thumpolly is a good place for this kind of work because of the tradition here. We don't try to be something we aren't. There are no polished floors or air-conditioned offices. It gets hot, and we sweat, and the work gets done. We sell what we make to people who need it, and they usually find us by word of mouth or just by seeing us on A.S. Road. We don't have a big marketing budget or a social media page. We just have the coir and the tools we use to process it. Some days the machines act up and we have to spend hours fixing them, but that’s just part of the job. It’s a gritty, honest business, and we are proud to be part of the Thumpolly community. It is a lot of hard work but it is ours.
