About Goodwill Coir Manufacturing Co. – Industrial Plant & Machines in Alappuzha
If you go down to The Canal Ward and look for Pb. No: 2616, you will find the Goodwill Coir Manufacturing Co. The air around here is often thick with the smell of coconut husks and the dampness from the canal nearby. We work with coir all day, so almost everything is covered in a fine brown dust that never seems to go away. It gets into your clothes and stays there until you wash them. The building we work in is quite old and has high ceilings to help keep things cool during the afternoon. We have large machines that process the fibers, and they make a steady humming noise that you stop noticing after you have been here an hour. It is a very physical place to work, with people hauling large bundles of fiber from the trucks to the processing floor. We do not have a receptionist or a lobby for visitors. If you come by, you will likely find us out back near the drying racks checking the stock. The weather really affects what we do; if it is too rainy, the drying takes forever and the whole schedule slows down. We have been in this part of town for a long time, and we have seen the canal change quite a bit over the years. We just keep making our mats and ropes like we always have. It is a messy job, but it is what we do.
