Saraiah Carpenter Works

I am Saraiah and I have been doing this carpenter work for many years now at H. No -6-57 in Doravarivempalle. This place is in Kothagudem, which is part of the Warangal area. My workshop is actually just a part of my home where I keep all my saws, chisels, and wood planks. It is a dusty job and there is always sawdust on the floor and in my hair by the end of the day. I make things like wooden frames for windows, simple stools, and sometimes bigger cupboards if someone asks. People from the village come to me when their wooden furniture breaks or if they need a new door. I don't use the most modern machines, mostly just hand tools and an old drill. The work takes time because I do it all myself. Sometimes the wood I get from the local supplier isn't very straight, so I have to spend extra hours leveling it out. My house at number 6-57 is where everyone knows to find me. You can hear the sound of hammering throughout the afternoon. It is a quiet life here in Doravarivempalle except for the noise from my shop. I don't have a big catalog of designs. People usually just tell me what they want or show me a picture and I try my best to copy it. It’s just me working with my hands to earn a living in Warangal.
