Mahendra Chary Carpenter Works

The workshop is located in Rangapuram, over in the Bheriwada area of Kesamudram. It is a basic setup at H. No -Rangapuram where the floor is almost always covered in a layer of fine sawdust. We spend most of the day cutting wood, sanding down edges, and putting pieces together. Mahendra Chary has been doing this kind of work for years and knows how to handle the different types of timber we get. It’s loud when the saws are running and sometimes the smell of varnish is quite strong. We don't have a fancy showroom or anything like that. People just come to the house with their ideas or a broken chair and we see what can be done. It is honest work that keeps our hands busy from morning until evening. Warangal can get quite hot in the summers so we usually start early to get the heavy cutting done before the sun is too high. The tools are mostly manual or simple power tools that have been with us for a long time. We take our time with the joints and the finish because that’s what makes the furniture last. It’s just us working in the shed, making things that people actually use in their homes. You won’t find any polished sales talk here, just the sound of a hammer and the sight of someone working on a piece of wood.
