Shri Shanti Granites

Shri Shanti Granites is our place over on New Tiruvalam Road in Katpadi. We are at number 63, and if you know where VIT is, we are pretty much right near there. It’s a busy stretch of road with a lot of students and trucks moving past all the time. The sun in Katpadi can be really harsh, so we spend a lot of the day trying to stay in the shade while we handle the granite slabs. Stone is a tough business and it’s very physical. Our yard is usually full of different types of granite and we are always moving things around to show people what we have. It’s dusty and noisy, but that’s just how it goes when you work with stone. We have a small office area where we sit down to figure out the measurements and do the billing. It’s nothing fancy, just a few ledgers and a calculator that gets used a lot. We don't have a big team, so everyone just chips in with whatever needs doing, whether it’s helping a customer or cleaning up the grit from the road. Most of our days are spent outdoors or in the open part of the shop. By the time we lock up at night, we are usually pretty tired and covered in a bit of dust. It’s just regular work for us here in Katpadi.
