Swagat is tucked away at Ck 14/48 in Nandan Sahu Lane. If you’ve ever walked through the Chowk area, you know how narrow these lanes can get. It’s a tight squeeze, and sometimes it’s hard to get big things in and out, but we’ve lived and worked here long enough to know the tricks. We don’t have a big neon sign or anything flashy. Most people just know where we are by looking for the old wooden door. Inside, it’s a bit dark, but we have enough light to see what we’re doing. We carry a mix of things that the locals might need. It’s not a supermarket. It’s more of a place where you come because you know we have that one specific item. The walls are a bit peeling in the corners, and the floor is worn down from years of feet walking over it. We don’t mind. It shows we’ve been busy. Sometimes the tea man comes by and we take a break for five minutes before getting back to the customers. We don’t use any complicated software to run the shop. It’s mostly just us and a few ledgers. The Nandan Sahu Lane is so narrow that you can almost touch the walls on both sides if you stretch your arms out. It’s a historic part of the Chowk, and we feel like we are part of that history in our own small way. This place is enough for us. We know our neighbors and we know the delivery guys who bring their carts.
