Vapi is a place where you can always tell what's being made by the smell in the air. We are located at Plot No. 198/1 in the GIDC Industrial Estate. Right across from us is the Vapi Paper Mills Ltd, which is a huge landmark around here. Our yard at Ambica Steels Suppliers is usually filled with stacks of metal that we spend all day moving around. It’s not the cleanest work, and our clothes usually end up with rust stains or grease by the afternoon. The trucks come and go, and there’s always a bit of shouting to get the drivers to park in the right spot. We don't have a big marketing team or anything like that. It’s just us and the inventory. Some days are slow and we just sit and talk about the weather or the local news while we wait for the next load. Other days are so busy we barely have time to eat our tiffins. The heat in the GIDC can be pretty intense during the summer months, and the tin roof doesn't help much. We just keep the water bottles full and keep going. It’s a straightforward life. We know our neighbors, we know the regular drivers, and we know our stock. We’ve been at this spot for a good while and the paper mill across the road is like a giant neighbor we see every single morning.
