Sona Papadkhar

At Sona Papadkhar, we are based out on Dabhoi Ali Road. If you know the area, it's pretty easy to find us. We deal with papadkhar, which is a basic but important ingredient for anyone making papads at home or in a business. The work here is mostly about weighing, packing, and dealing with the raw materials. It can get a bit messy because of the nature of the product, so we are always sweeping the floors. Our building is a bit older and the walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but it does the job for us. We have a small area in the front where we talk to customers and a larger space in the back for storage. Most of the people who buy from us are small-scale makers or families who have been using the same recipes for generations. We don't have any fancy brochures. We just talk to the people who come in and show them what we have in stock. The road outside can get quite dusty when the wind picks up, so we try to keep the doors closed when we can. It’s a steady kind of life here on Ali Road. We start early and finish when the work is done. We’ve been part of this neighborhood for a long time and we like the routine of it. It’s not flashy, but it’s what we do every day. We don't really have a big sign outside either, just a small board.
