Gamiyari Samridhi Mahila Kisan Producer Company Limited

Over in the village of Batabari, near Dimakuchi, there’s a group of us working under the name Gamiyari Samridhi Mahila Kisan Producer Company Limited. We use Aditya Daimary’s place as our base. Our group is mostly made up of women from the local area who are involved in farming. In this part of Darrang, the land is everything to us. We’ve been working these fields for years, and we thought it was about time we organized ourselves a bit better. It’s not like we have some grand plan to change the world. We just want to make sure we can sell what we grow for a decent price and help each other out when things get tough. Being a woman farmer has its own set of challenges, so having this group makes us feel a bit more secure. We spend our days out in the sun, weeding, planting, and harvesting. It’s back-breaking work sometimes, but we do it together, which makes it a bit easier. We don't have a fancy office with air conditioning. We mostly meet outside or in someone's living room. We talk about our families and our crops in the same breath. It’s just how it is in Batabari. We’re just local people trying to get by and look after our land. Every day is different, but the work remains the same, and we are glad to have each other.
