Temple Designers

We've been over here at New Fatehpura for a while now. Being near Sunder Vatika, it's a spot most people know. Temple Designers is basically what we do every day. We are part of Ashoka Arts & Exports. Sometimes the shop gets a bit busy with all the carvings and dust, but that’s just how it goes when you’re working with stone and wood. People come by Sukhadia Circle and find us easily enough. We don't really do the fancy office thing. It’s more about the actual work getting done. My father started with these kinds of things and we just kept it going. It’s hard work, sure. You have to be careful with the details because these are for people’s homes and places of worship. We spend most of our mornings checking the materials and making sure the guys are on track. Some days are longer than others, especially when we have a big project to finish. We're just a small unit trying to keep the traditional styles alive in this part of town. If you walk past the circle, you might hear us working. It’s not a quiet place, but we like it. We focus on the pieces in front of us. No big speeches or anything, just the crafts. Usually, we're here until late evening. It’s just how we run things at 30-A. Nothing too complicated, just honest labor and keeping the designs right. We don't use high-tech machines for everything; a lot of it is just hands and tools. That’s how you get the character in the work.
