You can find our shop at 61 Bhatiyani Chohata, which is a very busy and crowded street near the City Palace. We’ve been running this gift shop for quite a while now. We mostly keep things that people like to buy as a small memory of their trip to Udaipur. The shop itself is quite small and the street right outside is always packed with people, cows, and rickshaws. We don’t have any fancy decorations or modern interiors, just simple rows of items sitting on old wooden shelves. Most of our morning is spent dusting all the things we sell because the road outside is always kicking up a lot of dirt. It’s a local business and we handle everything ourselves from morning to night. We get to talk to a lot of travelers from all over the world, and that’s one of the more interesting parts of the job. Some days the shop stays completely empty for hours and we just sit there watching the crowds go by outside. Other days, it’s so full of people that we can’t even move around properly. We don’t use any high-tech systems for our sales, just a basic cash drawer and a handwritten book for the accounts. It’s a bit old-fashioned but it works well enough for a place like this. The building is old and has that classic feel that you find in the heart of the city. We just keep the doors open and see who walks in today.
