A One Gift sits right at 16 Malla Talai Chauraha, on the road that leads up to Sajjan Garh. Being at a Chauraha means there are four ways for people to come and go, so it’s never really quiet here. You can hear the engines of the cars and the honking of the rickshaws all day long. A lot of tourists pass by on their way to the palace, but most of my regulars are the people living right here in Malla Talai. The shop is a simple square room with shelves lining every wall. I keep a lot of colorful things near the door to catch people’s eyes. It gets a bit dusty because of the Sajjan Garh Road traffic, so I’m always holding a cloth to wipe things down. I don't really have a set routine, just open up early and stay until the streetlights come on. Sometimes the power goes out and we just sit there with a flashlight until it comes back. It’s just part of living in this part of town. I sell a lot of small items, stuff that people can carry easily. I’ve got a wooden chair behind the counter where I sit and watch the intersection. It’s interesting to see the world go by from this little spot at number 16. It’s not a fancy place, but it’s mine and it keeps me busy.
