Parmatma Books & Gifts Store is right across from Heera Bagh Colony on University Road. If you know where Delhi Gate is, we aren't too far from there either. Being on University Road means we see a lot of students walking by with their bags, looking tired or in a hurry to get to class. I started this place because I liked the idea of having books and little gifts in the same spot. It’s a long shop and we have books stacked almost to the ceiling in the back section. The front is where I keep the gift items, mostly stuff that students might buy for their friends. It gets really hot in the summer because the sun hits the front of the shop directly in the afternoon. I usually have to pull the awning down to keep the books from fading. There is a lot of noise from the bikes and buses outside, but you get used to it after a few weeks. I don't have a computer system or anything, I just write everything down in a ledger when someone buys something. It’s more reliable that way, I think. Sometimes people just come in to browse and escape the heat for a few minutes. I don't mind. It gives me someone to talk to while I’m organizing the notebooks or wiping down the shelves. It’s a busy neighborhood but our little corner feels alright.
