Shree Laxmi Electronics & Gift Emporium

Shree Laxmi Electronics & Gift Emporium is over at 13 Koliwara in the Surajpole area. Surajpole is one of the busiest gates in the old city, so there is always something happening. The streets are narrow and you have to be careful not to get hit by a scooter when you step out of the shop. I have a lot of things packed into this space at number 13. It’s mostly electronics like wall clocks and small appliances, but I also have a section for gift emporium items like statues and decorated boxes. The building is quite old, with thick walls that keep it a bit cooler in the summer, which is a blessing. I’ve spent most of my life in this neighborhood, so I know almost everyone on the street. We all help each other out when we can. The shop can get very dark in the back, so I have to keep the tube lights on all day. It’s a bit cluttered, I’ll admit that, but I know where everything is kept. If someone asks for a specific type of lamp or a gift for a wedding, I can usually find it in a few minutes. Surajpole is a place where people come to get things done, and I like being part of that energy. I just keep the door open and wait for the next person to come in.
