People usually find us right at the Chouraha here in Malla Talai. It’s a busy spot where all the traffic meets. We’ve been sitting in this shop for quite some time now, surrounded by glass cases full of watches and different gift items. The fans hum all day long trying to keep the place cool when the sun hits the front window. Most mornings start with just dusting the shelves because the road outside brings in a lot of dirt. There are wall clocks of all sizes ticking away at different times on the walls. We spend a lot of time just talking to neighbors who stop by or fixing a small strap for someone passing through. It’s not a huge place, just a simple room packed with boxes. Sometimes the lighting is a bit dim in the back corner where we keep the bigger gift sets. You can hear the sounds of the intersection all day long, the horns and the people shouting. We keep some pens and small trinkets near the counter too. It gets crowded when more than three people walk in at once. Usually, things are just stacked where they fit. We don't have fancy displays, just stuff sitting out where you can see it. It’s a bit of a squeeze but that’s how it’s always been here at the crossroads. Sometimes the children from the nearby houses peek in to look at the shiny watch faces through the glass. We just open up early and stay until the evening traffic dies down.
