Am Tiles

Our shop, Am Tiles, is tucked away inside the Panchamadri Aracade at 15-4-82. We’re right on Belagumba Main Road, which is pretty close to Hanumanthapura. Being in an arcade means we have other shops right next to us, so there’s usually a lot of chatter and noise throughout the day. We start our mornings early, unloading heavy tile deliveries right on the edge of the main road before the traffic gets too bad. The shop itself is filled with different samples that we’ve leaned against the walls over the years. Sometimes the stacks get a bit wobbly, so we have to be careful when we’re walking around. It’s a simple setup with a lot of stone and ceramic taking up most of the room. We don’t have a fancy layout or a showroom with shiny floors. We just keep the lights on and help whoever happens to walk through the door. Usually, it’s just local folks who are working on their own houses. We’ve a small wooden stool near the back where we sit to take our tea breaks. The floor stays covered in a thin layer of dust from the tiles being moved around constantly. It’s hard to keep it perfectly clean, so we just sweep it once at the end of the day. We’ve been doing this for a long time and the routine stays pretty much the same. We just open up, do the work, and go home.
