We are out on the Pollachi Udumalaipet Main Road. The exact spot is P.Vadugapalayam, right there in Palladam. If you drive past, you’ll see the sign for No.148/1. This area is known for cotton, and that is exactly what we spend our time on. We deal with the raw stuff, getting it ready and moving it along. It’s dusty work. Cotton fibers get everywhere, on your clothes and in your hair, but that is just the nature of the business. We have been here for a while and have seen the trucks come and go every day. The road outside is always busy with traffic heading toward Pollachi or Udumalaipet. Inside the gate, it’s mostly about managing the bales and making sure the storage is dry. We don't have any fancy mission statements. We just buy and sell cotton and make sure the grade is what it needs to be for the buyers. Some seasons are busier than others depending on the harvest. When the new crop comes in, we are working from sunrise to late at night. The staff here are mostly locals who know the cotton trade inside out. It’s a simple operation, really. No big corporate meetings, just people moving bags and checking the staple length. It’s a decent living and keeps the community going. We don’t really do any big advertising, as most people around here already know where we are.
