A. K. R. Textiles

No. 52 Kumar Nagar is where we set up A. K. R. Textiles. It sits right on the Valayankadu Main Road, so there is never a moment of peace from the traffic. You can hear the buses and trucks roaring past all day long. The shop is full of rolls of fabric that we keep stacked against the back wall. We have a small counter where we talk to people who come in. It is mostly just a lot of lifting and moving things around. The ceiling fan is old and makes a clicking sound that you get used to after a while. We don't have any decorations on the walls, just a calendar from three years ago. A. K. R. Textiles is a simple operation. We don't use any fancy systems, just our notebooks and a few pens that usually run out of ink when you need them. The floor is swept every morning, but the dust from the road comes back inside by noon. We eat our lunch sitting on the back crates because there isn't much room for a table. It is just the way things are here in Kumar Nagar. Sometimes the neighbors come by to complain about the noise or just to chat. We just keep our heads down and handle the textiles. It is a long day but we are used to the routine by now.
