Rani Bricks

We are situated at No: 22B on the Main Road in Alankulam. It’s a convenient spot because trucks can pull in and out without too much trouble, though the road can get pretty narrow when traffic is heavy. We’ve been making bricks here for quite some time. The process hasn't changed much over the years. We use the local earth and bake them until they’re solid. It’s hot work, especially when the kilns are running at full tilt. You can feel the heat coming off them from the other side of the yard. We have a small team, mostly people from the surrounding area who know how to handle the raw bricks without breaking them. They’re fragile before they’re fired, so you have to be careful when moving them. We don’t have a big office with air conditioning; we just have a small bench under the shade where we talk to customers. People usually just stop by because they saw our sign or the big piles of red bricks from the road. We don't bother with brochures or anything like that. We just show them a sample and tell them when we can have a load ready. It’s a practical business, and we focus on just making a decent product that won't crumble. Alankulam is a good community, and we’re glad to be a part of it. Most of the houses in the nearby streets were built with at least a few of our bricks, which is nice to think about. It makes the hard work feel like it matters more to the town.
