Peravurani Coir Producer Company Limited

In Peravurani, everything revolves around coconuts. You can see the trees everywhere you look. Our group decided to focus specifically on coir because there is so much husk left over after the nuts are sold. We set up our place at 174/6 in Nattanikkottai North, which is part of the Town Panchayat. It’s a dusty place because of the fibers, and the machines make a fair bit of noise, but it’s where we get the work done. We are a group of local people who saw an opportunity to use what was being wasted. None of us are big city businessmen. We are just folks who grew up here and know how the local economy works. Some days the machines break down or we have trouble finding enough labor, but we manage to pull through. It is not always easy running a producer company when you are used to just working in a grove. We’ve had to learn a lot about business on the fly. We don't have a polished story to tell; we just process the husks and try to sell the coir to whoever needs it for mats or rope. The office is right there in Ward No 5 if anyone needs to find us. We mostly focus on staying busy and making sure the members get their share of whatever we earn. It is a slow process but we are getting better at it every single year we stay open.
