Navasaarigai Silk Handloom Weaver Producer Company Limited

We are over here in Derku Rajavithinedugunam, which is a small village but quite busy when it comes to weaving. Navasaarigai Silk is really just a bunch of us weavers who got together to make things a bit more organized. Most of the folks here have been working on handlooms since they were kids. It’s what our parents did and their parents too. The shop is at number 277. If you walk down the main street, you’ll hear the clatter of the looms through the doors. It is a loud sound but we are used to it by now. We handle silk mostly. It takes a lot of time to get the threads right and set up the patterns. Some days the humidity makes the silk act up, but that is just part of the job. We don’t have a big fancy office or anything like that. It’s just the looms and the yarn and a lot of tea to keep us going through the afternoon. People in the village know us well. We just wanted a way to keep the traditional work alive without losing money to middle agents all the time. Being a producer company helps us stay together. Sometimes we run out of space for the finished pieces, so things get a bit crowded in the workspace. It’s not a perfect setup but it works for us and the families here. We just keep our heads down and keep the looms moving every day.
