Mamma

We opened Mamma in Shop No 3 of the Kamal Smriti Building in Ambernath. It is right across the street from the Shrirath Hotel, which is a big landmark that helps people find us. This part of Thane is always moving, with people going about their business and heading towards the local shops. Our place is quite small, just a single shop unit, but we make it work. We have a few chairs for people who want to sit, but many just stand and talk. The building itself is older, and you can feel that in the way the walls look. We do not have any big corporate signs, just the name on the front. We spend a lot of time preparing everything in the back. It is a small space, so we have to be careful not to get in each other’s way while we work. The morning usually starts with us opening the shutters and sweeping the front step. The dust from the road is a constant battle. We mostly get locals from the nearby apartment buildings who come in for a quick bite or to take something home. We do not have a complicated system or fancy machines. It is just us doing things the old-fashioned way. When the evening comes, the street gets even busier with people coming back from work, and that is our busiest time. We just keep serving until we run out of food and then we head home.
