Iqbal Floor Mill

Our mill is situated right across from Aman Hospital at the Gafor Don Chowk. If you are familiar with Reti Bunder Road in Kalyan West, you have probably passed by us many times without thinking much about it. It is called Iqbal Floor Mill. To be honest, we spend most of our working hours covered in a thin layer of flour dust. That is just how it goes when you are milling grain every day. The machines we use are quite old, but they are reliable because we spend a lot of time maintaining them ourselves. It gets very noisy when the motors are running, so we usually have to shout to hear what anyone is saying. People from the neighborhood bring their bags of grain and wait around while we process them. It creates a nice, steady rhythm to our day. Being located near the hospital and the chowk means there is always a lot of activity outside our door. The traffic can get really backed up in the afternoons, but we just stay focused on the work inside. We know most of our regular customers by their faces, even if we sometimes struggle to remember their names. There is no fancy showroom here, just the heavy scales and the mill. We keep the front open to get some air because it gets warm inside. It is hard, physical work, but it keeps us busy and we like it that way.
