Vinayak Wooden Carving

You can find us over at Mahalaxmi Complex, right on Bhatar Road. We are down in the lower ground floor, specifically units 13 and 14. Being in the basement area means it stays a bit cooler during the hot afternoons, which is nice when you are working with your hands all day. Vinayak Wooden Carving has been in this spot for a bit. The shop is usually filled with the smell of wood shavings and some dust, but that is part of the job. It is not a showroom where everything is shiny. It is a workspace. We spend most of our hours here using different tools and just focusing on the pieces in front of us. Bhatar Road is always packed with traffic, so the sounds of cars and bikes are pretty constant. We usually have a few different things going on at once. Sometimes it gets a bit messy with all the scraps on the floor, but we clean it up at the end of the shift. My hands are usually a bit rough from the work, and that is just how it goes. People come in to ask about specific designs or just to see what we are currently working on. We don’t have a big front desk or a receptionist. If someone walks in, one of us just stops what we are doing to go talk to them. It is a very direct way of doing things.
