Vijay Saree Center

Vijay Saree Center is located at J/4 in the Adajan Dn area. It is a bit different from the big markets on Ring Road because it feels a little more like a neighborhood spot. We have a glass front that lets in some sunlight in the afternoons. The sarees are all folded neatly and kept in the cupboards. Sometimes we have to move everything around to find a specific color someone asked for. We don't have a lot of space, so we have to be careful about where we put the new stock when it arrives. There is a small stool behind the counter where I sit and read the paper when nobody is around. J/4 isn't hard to find if you know the Adajan Dn area at all. The street outside can get a bit muddy when it rains, so we have a mat at the door for people to wipe their feet. We’ve had the same sign outside for years. It’s getting a bit faded now. Inside, it’s just me and sometimes my nephew who helps out on the weekends. We don’t do anything special, just show the sarees to whoever comes in and talk about the different patterns. It’s a steady kind of life. We close up exactly at eight every night and walk home. It’s just a regular local shop for people who live nearby.
