Vatika Sarees

Vatika Sarees is tucked away in Q 16 of the Old Bombay Market in Umarwada. If you know the market, you know it's a maze. We’ve been in this spot for a long time, right in the middle of all the chaos of the Bombay Market area. It's loud, it's dusty, and there's always someone hauling a bale of cloth past the door. We sell sarees mostly. The shop is full of them, stacked from the floor up to the ceiling in some places. It’s not the most organized place, but we know where everything is. People come here because they know the Old Bombay Market is where the real trade happens. We don't have fancy displays or those big glass windows. It’s just a counter and a lot of fabric. My brother and I run the place usually. Some days are slow and we just sit and drink chai, and other days we can't even find time to eat lunch because of the rush. Umarwada is always moving. We see a lot of retailers coming in from out of town to pick up stock. We don’t bother with much fancy talk. You like the cloth, you take it. That’s how it works here. It’s been our life for years and we don’t see that changing anytime soon. We enjoy the market life and the people we meet every single day.
