Sorath Silk Fabrics

Our place is inside the Universal Textile Market. We are at numbers 1052 and 1053. It’s right on Ring Road, and then another stretch of Ring Road just past the entrance. Working with silk means we have to be a bit careful. The fabric can be slippery. We spend hours counting stock. The market life is pretty predictable. You see the tea man coming around twice a day. We talk to the shopkeepers next door about the weather or the traffic. It’s not a quiet job. There is always someone shouting or a cart rolling by. Our space is filled with rolls of cloth. Sometimes we run out of room to sit. We try to keep things organized but it gets messy by the afternoon. That’s just how it goes when you’re busy. Universal Textile Market is a big building. It takes a while to learn your way around. We’ve been in this specific unit for a good bit now. We know which floorboards creak. It's an honest living. We don't use fancy computers for everything. A lot is still done on paper. We check the colors under the shop lights. It's basic. We just focus on the fabric and the people who come in. By the end of the day, our backs usually ache. But we show up again the next morning and do it all over again. The silk keeps us occupied. It’s just the way it is here.
