Silk Mandir Saree

Our shop, Silk Mandir Saree, is at F-1305 in the Millennium Textile Market. It's a big building and it can be hard to find us if you don't know the floor plan. We are tucked away in one of the long corridors. The air is always full of the smell of new fabric and the sound of packing tape being pulled. We deal mostly in sarees, as the name says. The space is filled with bundles and loose pieces waiting to be sorted. We have a small counter where we do all the work, from counting money to drinking our afternoon chai. The market is always buzzing with activity from early morning until late evening. Sometimes the elevators are so full we just take the stairs, even though it's a long climb. We aren't a high-end boutique with soft music and fancy lighting. We have bright tube lights and metal racks. It’s a workplace, plain and simple. We spend most of our day talking to wholesalers and checking the delivery trucks. It’s a lot of coordination to make sure the right colors go to the right people. We’ve had this spot for years and it feels like a second home now. We know most of the neighbors and we help each other out when things get too busy. It’s just a regular part of the Surat textile world. We hope the rains don't cause any leaks this year. We keep some plastic sheets ready just in case of a storm.
