Our shop, Saheb Saree, is on the first floor of the Surat Textile Market. That’s the K-3 unit. Being on the Ring Road is great for business but terrible for parking. If you have ever tried to find a spot around the textile market, you know what I am talking about. We have been on this floor for several years. It is a tight space, filled floor to ceiling with sarees. We try to keep things sorted by color or material, but by the end of a busy Tuesday, everything is usually in a bit of a heap. We just fold it all back up again. It’s a lot of physical work, lifting those heavy bundles. We don't have a website or any of that fancy stuff. People just come in, look at the stuff, and we tell them the price. The hallway outside is always full of people carrying huge bags on their shoulders. It is a loud, sweaty, and fast-moving place. Sometimes the elevators don't work, so we have to carry everything up the stairs. We don't complain much, that's just the way it is in Surat. We like the energy of the market. It keeps us moving. We know the other shopkeepers on the K-wing, and we all look out for each other when someone is away. It is a hard job but it feels good to be part of the trade here.
