S. K. Export Fabrics

We are based in Sachin, in the G.I.D.C. area. Specifically, we’re at Plot No. 729, Royel No. 3/33. The industrial zone here is huge and it’s easy to get lost if you don’t have the plot number handy. S. K. Export Fabrics is where we process fabrics for different markets. It’s a big warehouse-style space. The floor is always covered in bits of string and fabric dust. It’s not the cleanest place, but we’re a factory, not a mall. We spend our time checking the weave and making sure the colors are right. The machines can be quite loud, so we have to shout sometimes to hear each other. Sachin is a bit far out from the main city, but it’s where all the textile work happens. We’ve been in this plot for a few years. The roof gets really hot in the afternoon, so we try to get the heavy work done early in the morning. We don’t have a fancy website or a marketing team. It’s just us and the machines. Sometimes we have a little snack in the corner during the break. It’s simple, repetitive work, but it’s what we know how to do. We just focus on the fabric in front of us and hope the machines don't break down before the end of the shift. That is just how things go. We keep at it until it's time to go home.
