Pushkar Sarees

Z-1168 on the ground floor of the Surat Textile Market is where you’ll find Pushkar Sarees. If you’ve ever been to the Ring Road market area, you know how crowded and loud it gets every single day. Our shop is right in the middle of all that action. We spend the whole day surrounded by piles of sarees in every color you can imagine. The ground floor is great because people don't have to climb stairs, but it also means we get a lot of dust from the street and the constant noise of the crowds. We keep a couple of old fans going to stay cool while we fold and unfold the fabric for customers who stop by. It’s hard work on the back, standing all day long, but we are used to it by now. The market has its own rhythm, with the tea sellers coming around and the porters moving heavy bags on their shoulders through the narrow aisles. We don’t have a big fancy display; we just show the sarees on a plain white sheet on the floor or over the wooden counter. It is very traditional. Sometimes we lose track of time because there are no windows to the outside world, just the bright tube lights of the market ceiling. We’ve been in this same spot for a long time, and we know most of the regular buyers by name. It’s just a regular market life with plenty of work.
