Priyalaxmi Silk Mills

Priyalaxmi Silk Mills is over in Bombay Market at Umarwada. We are at V.F. 6-7 in Adatiya Awas. The market is always a bit chaotic. There’s the smell of snacks from the street vendors and the sound of people haggling. We’ve been here in Umarwada for quite a while. Our units are decent sized but we still manage to fill them up completely. Silk is nice to handle but you have to be careful with it. It’s not like cotton where you can just throw it around. We spend a lot of time checking for snags or dust. The floors have to be kept clean. It’s a lot of sweeping. We get people coming from all over to this market. It’s a famous spot. We usually just sit on the cushions on the floor while we work. It’s more comfortable that way. The ceiling fans don't do much when it's really humid, but we survive. We have our regulars who come by just to chat sometimes. We don't have a big sign or anything too flashy. People who need to find us usually know where we are. It’s a steady kind of life. We just keep the mill going and make sure the orders are ready on time. There’s always another pile of fabric waiting for us in the morning. We just lock the shutters and head home. That’s our day. It’s enough to keep us going.
