Prabhu Kripa Fabrics

Our spot is J-1722, located deep inside the Radha Krishna Textile Market in Surat. If you have ever been inside this market, you know it’s like a giant maze with hundreds of shops all packed together. We are up on the J floor, which means there is a lot of walking involved to get to us. The shop itself is quite small and every inch of wall space is covered with rolls of fabric. There’s barely enough room for a small desk and a couple of people to stand at the same time. We spend most of our day measuring out lengths of cloth and trying to keep the stacks from leaning over too much. The lighting in the corridor is a bit dim, but we have some bright tube lights inside so we can see the colors properly. You can always hear the sound of people shouting to each other and the heavy thud of fabric bundles being dropped on the floor nearby. It gets pretty hot in the afternoons, but we just keep the small cabin fan running. Lunch is usually eaten quickly at the desk while we wait for the next person to stop by. It’s a very fast-paced environment where everyone is trying to get their orders ready for the transport trucks downstairs. We’ve been in this market for a long time, and we just focus on the daily task of handling the fabrics that come through our door.
